Malaria
The recent Australian federal budget called for the private sector to become more involved in foreign aid. Liam Cochrane, in PNG, has found one company that's successfully helping combat malaria. The company provides the training and medicines and then pays the women 50 cents for each good quality blood sample they send in, providing income, data, and treatment. Over the years, malaria cases have dropped off and the women increasingly use their newfound small business skills to sell household goods.
