Police Confiscate Marijuana
Police have confiscated 25 kilograms of marijuana, a boat and other items following a recent arrest in Lae. Four of the six suspects have been arrested, while two have since escaped.

Wewak Police Disappointed

Mt Hagen Airport
Mount Hagen International Airport at Kagamuga in the highlands of the country was formally reopened by Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill on Thursday, November 26, following the completion of a new PGK70 million international terminal.
Funds allocated for the airport upgrade had been a part of ADB's Civil Aviation Development Investment Program (CADIP) which intends to boost safety, accessibility, and reliability of air services in the country. Around 21 national airports are aimed to be improved under the CADIP in order to improve and ensure safe and secure all-weather air transportation.
Brown onions have been selling at almost PGK20.00 per kilogram at the RH Supermarket in Port Moresby. Bulb onions were recently allowed to be imported from overseas due to an acute shortage of locally grown onions and a demand that could not be met.
PX Signs Flight Centre Agreement
Air Niugini has signed a Preferred Partner Agreement with Australia's biggest travel agent, Flight Centre with the focus to deliver considerable benefits to the growing number of Australian travellers to Papua New Guinea.
Air Niugini operates a total twenty six (26) flights to Australia in a week including 13 to Brisbane, 11 to Cairns and 2 services to Sydney. These flights are operated using the Boeing 767, B738 and the Fokker 70 aircraft.

Alotau Stadium Opened
The people of Alotau now will enjoy the use of a new stadium opened recently in Milne Bay. The new stadium was named after Alotau's favourite son, the late Abona Gaige. The new Abona Gaige Stadium will be under the management of the Urban Town Pastors Fraternal. The stadium was built under joint funding by Alotau District and the PNG Sports Foundation.
The budget, rushed through Parliament early last month, could have been so much better. Given PNG's record deficit levels, fiscal consolidation was vital even before the fall in international commodity prices. However, the proposed expenditure cuts do not match the government's stated priorities of protecting health, education and infrastructure. And the cuts are excessive - more than even imposed on Greece as part of its structural adjustment program.
7th PNG Games
PNG Sports Foundation's Executive Director, Peter Tsiamalili Jnr has said that a budget of K10 million will be assigned for the rollout of the seventh PNG Games in Kimbe, West New Britain.

Malaria Digs In
In one country, despite consistent successes in malaria control during the past 10 years, the disease remains rife, threatening all the efforts of its neighbours by providing a base for reinfection: Papua New Guinea, only a canoe ride away from Australia. In contrast, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, the only other Pacific countries with malaria, have moved ahead. The overwhelming size of the challenge has held PNG back until very recently, to trying to control the disease rather than wiping it out.
The PNG Fire Service has been notorious for its slow response time to fires in the nation's capital, however, Fire Chief Officer, Isaac Silas, highlighted that the service is deprived of manpower and equipment.
US Funding Opportunity
The U.S. Embassy in Port Moresby is pleased to announce another funding opportunity under the Ambassador's Small Grants Program. This funding opportunity is made possible by the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and is seeking to fund projects to combat stigma and discrimination (including violence) particularly associated with the key populations (KP) of female sex workers (FSW) and men that have sex with men (MSM) in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
