Vale Justin Kili

Long-time media personality in fact you could call him Radio Legend, Justin Kili MBE, passed away early in the morning of he 17th of January at Vunapope hospital. To most of the nation he was simply known as JK.

He started in radio in the early 70's. His first job in the media was at Radio Bougainville in 1972.

POM Water and Sewerage

Eda Ranu chief operating officer Dr Fifaia Matainaho says the water and sewerage problem in Port Moresby has now reached a critical stage.


Shooting Suspect Arrested

The main suspect in the shooting death of Moana Pisimi on New Year's Day in Lae city has been arrested and charged. The suspect was named as first constable Jack Baria from Madang.


Another Police Shooting

Mary Daure from Hanuabada village in Port Moresby has become a widow after police allegedly shot her husband, Nicholas Rarua, and another villager, in broad daylight. Two others are now in ICU.

It is alleged the incident started after a van loaded with armed policemen came into Hanuabada Village and started destroying the market, smashing vendor's eskies and assaulting mothers and the public selling at the market.

Two women who had implants but are pregnant have questioned the effectiveness of the family planning method they used.


Cruise Boom

Shipping companies are taking an increasing interest in PNG, with passenger arrivals surging and even big ships now heading to PNG's shores.


Motuan Dinghies

Moresby North-West MP Michael Malabag has provided five dinghies to the Motuan Coastline fishing groups. They are the Hanuabada's Tigers, Elevala's Two Bees, Baruni's Harutu, Tatana's Korema and Kanudi fishing groups. They received the dinghies recently from Malabag's executive project officer Angus Ali at Ela Beach.


Stop SDP Interference

The International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes has ordered PNG's government to stop interfering in the management of the PNG Sustainable Development Program.


Oceania Football Seminar

An Oceania Football staff capacity seminar has been underway for almost a week in Port Moresby. The aim of the seminar is to market the Just Play programme in Papua New Guinea to potential sponsors.


Bougainvillean Mine

A former employee and one time fleet trucking contractor to the Bougainville Copper Ltd has urged Bougainvilleans, particularly the Panguna landowners and other opposing factions, to seriously consider the possibility of reopening the mine for the benefit of all.


SpeedCast + O3b Networks

SpeedCast International Limited has entered into an agreement with O3b Networks where O3b will provide capacity for Papua New Guinea via its innovative Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) satellite constellation.

Public Motor Vehicles Fares

The current Public Motor Vehicle (PMV) fares throughout the country are set to change in the coming days when an Independent Consumer and Competition Commission (ICCC) review on the fares is gazetted.

The 2015 Morobe Provincial Government budget of K470 million will be focused on improving transport infrastructure and continue investments in economic projects.

More than 40 asylum seekers detained in jail or in police station cells on Manus may be transferred to Bomana prison outside Port Moresby, a Papua New Guinea Government source says.

Another MP in Trouble

PNG Tourism Minister and North Fly MP Boka Kondra will soon appear for mention where a trial date will be set for a Leadership Tribunal to commence.


The Member of Parliament for Komo-Magarima, Francis Potape, has been sentenced to two and half years in prison with hard labour.


Potape is the third MP in the current term of Parliament who has been sentenced for public corruption. Two other MP's sentenced earlier were Paul Tiensten (Pomio) and Havila Kavo (Gulf Regional).

Karawari Indigenous Cave Art

EcoInternet is thrilled to announce that their international campaign to save the ancient Karawari indigenous cave art and adjoining rainforests from mining in PNG has been successful. The exemplary organising by local residents to resist Australia and Malaysian mining and logging interests was the primary reason plans to mine the area have been dropped for now.


Michael Learns To Rock

"We should have been here 25 years ago, guess we're 25 years late," These were the words from Mikkel Lentz, lead guitarist and Producer of Michael Learns To Rock during a recent performance at the Lamana Gold Club in Port Moresby.


Bougainville Electoral Commission

Bougainville Electoral Commission will establish three field coordination offices in the three regions of Bougainville. Acting Bougainville Electoral Commissioner George Manu said the purpose was to coordinate election matters North, Central and South Bougainville.


Philippine Airlines

Philippine Airlines is planning to launch new non-stop service from Manila to Port Moresby. The Philippine national flag carrier applied last month for the existing entitlements held by Cebu Pacific.


Vale Leonard Barnard

Leonard Barnard, the Seventh-day Adventist Church's first missionary pilot and co-founder of the aviation company used by the South Pacific Division, died this week at the age of 95. He was best known for three decades of pioneering missionary work on the South Pacific Island that includes Papua New Guinea.


Year in Review

A surge in gas exports will set Papua New Guinea on course for an economic boom in 2015 with some estimates putting GDP growth at a stellar 21%. However, tumbling oil prices are likely to take some of the shine off export receipts, limiting the government's ambitious plan to slash debt.

2015 Paciic Games

PNG athletes have been given a K20,000 incentive to win gold at the 2015 Pacific Games. The government in consultation with the PNG Olympic Committee has allocated K5.7 million for the gold medal incentive which is the first of its kind in the country. PNG will have a contingent of 800 athletes and officials at the Games in July.



The PNG Department of Health has dispatched a team to a remote part of Chimbu province where a measles outbreak has reportedly killed six people. The Department says it's confident it can stem the outbreak.


Correctional Service

A hundred and thirty-six officers have passed out at the Bomana Correctional Service training college after six months' training under a revised programme.


Milne Bay Mobile Phones

The Milne Bay provincial government plans to establish access to mobile telecommunication in the province. Governor Titus Philemon and the provincial administration have been working with Digicel PNG to have towers installed in areas which would allow remote areas in the province to access Digicel's network.


Wind Power

Small-scale fish farmers in Morobe are impressed with the alternative power source available to freeze their harvest. Wind power generated by turbines is now available.


Mass Walkout Feared

Opposition Leader, Don Polye, has expressed concerns over the possible mass exit of teachers at the start of the school year this week.
