Warning: PNG web sites seem to come and go. The fact of life is that it costs money to host a web site and there is not much return on the outlay to most businesses in PNG.

If you do click on a link and use the services or even have some comments to make then please contact the people at the relevant web site and let them know so they at least know that someone has gained some value from their efforts. New Book

Look out for a new book about to be published in July. It's called Not a Poor Man's Field - The New Guinea Goldfields to 1942: An Australian Colonial History. Foreword has been written by Ross Garnaut, Chairman of Lihir Gold. While the story of how the Morobe goldfields developed is at the core of the book, it goes a lot further, using the goldfields as a prism through which the author views the colonial experience including how Australia administered NG under the League of Nations Mandate. He also looks at black-white encounters from both perspectives. The book will be available in the University of PNG Bookshop, though the date is uncertain at this stage.

Wara Blong Life

Advance notice of Oxfam's Wara Blong Life online project

PNG schools are invited to take part in this fun, interactive classroom project which takes place in term 4. Wara Blong Life (Water for Survival) is a 9-week, year 1 to 10, project, based on the Technology, Social Studies and Health and Physical Education curricula.

The aims of the project are to encourage 'out of the square' problem solving in a 'real world' context. Working in collaboration with Kenyan and New Zealand schools, students both design a method of washing hands that requires very little water and develop health education materials.

Teachers and students are fully supported for the duration of the project with background resources, an e-teacher and experts in the field.
