Warning: PNG web sites seem to come and go. The fact of life is that it costs money to host a web site and there is not much return on the outlay to most businesses in PNG.

If you do click on a link and use the services or even have some comments to make then please contact the people at the relevant web site and let them know so they at least know that someone has gained some value from their efforts. If you are so inclined then mention that you heard about them from this web site. -- The PNG Gossip Newsletter.

Census

PNG Census - What has happened to the census? Ten years since the last one and it appears the people planning the event have failed. It was due to happen between the 11th and the 17th of July. The Director of PNG's Institute of National Affairs Paul Barker says the census is now likely next year, which will impact on preparations for the elections the year thereafter.

PNG Political Parties

There are currently 33 Political Parties registered with the Registrar of Political Parties. Some of the parties do not have representatives in the current (8th) parliament. Many parties only have one member and in fact there is only one party, the National Alliance Party, with more than 10 members in the current parliament.

For a list of all the parties -- http://www.ippcc.gov.pg/parties.htm

There are many parties, but party allegiances are weak. Winning candidates are usually courted in efforts to forge the majority needed to form a government, and allegiances are fluid. No single party has yet won enough seats to form a government in its own right.
