Civil Servant Pay Rise
Civil servants will get 7.5% pay increases annually for the next three years under an agreement signed in Port Moresby recently. The agreements represent significant improvements in the terms and conditions of public servants over the next three years starting in 2014.

Air Niugini's Chief Executive Officer, Simon Foo said 2013 was challenging with new initiatives for the airline such as acquisition of new aircraft and cabin fitting and upgrading for some of their aircraft. Medicine Funding Withdrawn
Australia has withdrawn funding for a program that supplies medicine to PNG health centres due to safety concerns. In June, the PNG government removed crucial quality-control criteria and later awarded the contract to a local company linked to a Chinese supplier of sub-quality drugs.

Investigators Promise Swift Action
The man in charge of a police team heading to Wewak in Papua New Guinea to investigate the alleged rape of an 18 year old girl by local policemen says they can take swift action once they're on the ground. The investigation will also look into the alleged beating and detention of the president of a women's group who, with members of the girl's family, went to lay an official complaint.

Manus Sex Video
A PNG politician says asylum seekers detained on Manus Island have appeared in a pornographic film with local girls. The island's outspoken MP, Ronny Knight, says the detention centre is 'out of control' and he will show the clip to Australian officials.

Fears for Gay Refugees
Amnesty International REFUGEE advocates have raised fresh concerns about LGBTI asylum seekers on Manus Island. Homosexuality remains illegal in PNG, with same-sex relations punishable with up to 14 years jail. Since July when then- Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, introduced a policy of resettling all refugees arriving by boat in either Manus Island or Nauru, the population at the Manus facility has tripled to over 1000 people.

Heavy Landing Craft
Australia will gift a heavy landing craft to Papua New Guinea next year under increasing military and maritime ties. The vessel, at about 150 feet long, have a crew of 13 and can carry a typical load of 175 tons up to 1,300 nautical miles, powered by two GE diesel engines.

Prime Minister O'Neill's Office has received reports that PNG is a victim to 'Financial Scheme' terrorists. According to a media release, the PM's Office has been made aware of the presence of fraudulent Agents and Marketing Representatives of International Media and Publishing Companies in the country.

Australian Federal Police
The final contingent of Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers has arrived at Jackson International Airport. The 10 officers will be working alongside their counterparts in community policing operations in Port Moresby and Lae under the PNG-Australian Policing Partnership (PNG-APP).

PNG Government's agreement to accept Australia's involvement in the 2018 Asia Pacific Economic Countries (APEC) meeting may mean serious breaches to the national interests of the country. former PNG ambassador to the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu Brain Yombon Copio said that this was a sign of incapability of the government which had voluntarily put its hands up to play host to this high profile regional meeting.
