Festival of Pacific Arts

Solomon Islands is scheduled to hold the Festival of Pacific Arts in 2012 however it appears that the country is racing against time to prove that it can host the festival. The main problem stopping the event is financial. The government allocated funding on paper but in reality there is very little. Both PNG and Fiji are alternative venues if the Solomon's does not satisfy the Pacific Arts Council by next year.

BSP to Acquire Fiji Bank

Lissenung Island Resort

The people at Lissenung Island Resort -- -- are always conscious of any possible damage to the reef when they go out diving. They are forever discovering new locations to take tourists so they can see the wonderful sights that abound in waters around Kavieng. Drilling a permanent mooring in the coral is not as easy as it sounds even with the correct equipment but it is preferable to dragging an anchor along the reef.

PNG Corruption

Here is a good article about corruption in PNG by Nancy Sullivan --

Villagers Seek Compensation

Villagers close to the recent crash site of an Airlines PNG Twin Otter near Kokoda are demanding compensation for environmental damage to their land caused by the accident. The owners of the land have reportedly said they will allow a memorial to the 13 victims to be built at the crash site. Three of the landowners also claim they have found what appears to be human remains. Authorities are investigating this claim.

Full story --

As Airlines PNG has referred the compensation claim to its insurers to assess it is not able to comment on the matter.

The East New Britain Provincial Government will fund the construction of a rest house and a toilet at the site.

LNG Projects

The PNG government says it doesn't have the capacity to run two liquefied natural gas projects at the same time. PNG's first multibillion-dollar LNG project is being managed by ExxonMobil, who plan to pipe gas from the country's highlands to a processing facility northwest of the capital Port Moresby.

The PNG LNG Project proposes to develop gas fields in the Southern Highlands and Western Province of PNG and transport the gas via pipeline to an LNG facility near Port Moresby for shipment to markets overseas.
